Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started (6)
What age is recommended to start?
Each child grows differently so you would know best when to let them start. At United Digital Learning, we accept students from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Please remember that each state has mandatory age requirements for attendance. Click here to find what the laws are in your state: http://www.homeschoolfacts.com/states/index.php/State_Laws
Can I start any time of the year?
Yes, absolutely! UDL offers open enrollment so you can start whenever you wish. It begins when it is convenient for you.
Is UDL considered Homeschooling?
Yes, this IS considered Homeschooling. Our programs are very similar to “traditional classroom” education but with the flexibility of homeschooling. United Digital Learning has taken all the guesswork out for you. Everything is built right into our programs such as Assignments, Lesson Plans, Quizzes and Tests. Best of all, it is extremely user friendly for all to enjoy.
As the parent (or guardian), what is my role?
You, as a parent, have been your child’s first “teacher” so believe it or not, it’s not that difficult of a transition because we furnish you with all the right “tools”. As with any educational process, your commitment is important to the success of your child. Through United Digital Learning the guesswork has been eliminated by providing you with all the solutions needed for your child’s independent study program. It is our belief, you and your child will enjoy this learning partnership and grow to enjoy each other like never before.
Is United Digital Learning accredited?
United Digital Learning is a web-based curriculum “provider” – NOT a school. In order to give our homeschool families the same “tools” as the finest traditional schools, we’ve hand-picked the best curriculum in the country! Many of the SAME successful programs/courses used by the most accomplished and accredited private and public schools worldwide. It is YOU, as the homeschooling parent that will be administering and benefiting from this curriculum – hence, designation you an “official” homeschooler.
Will my student/ child get a diploma through United Digital Learning?
UDL will design a Diploma with “Your Homeschool Name” once you have determined that your student has completed the course of study in the program / curriculum provided by us. Again, as the Homeschool Family, taking these distance learning courses, YOU can name your school whatever you wish. For example – If your family name is “Smith” you can choose to use “Smith Homeschool Academy”… Or if you live on Main Street, you may want to consider naming your school “Main Street Homeschool”. As always, be sure to check the homeschool laws of your state and seek local homeschool support groups to guide you through the process. Both of which can be found and located at http://www.homeschoolfacts.com/states/index.php/State_Laws and seek advice through your local homeschool support groups, too.
While United Digital Learning is the “provider” for the curriculum/courseware, it is YOU, the parent or guardian who will be the “teacher” overseeing their education. Our staff will be available during work hours to assist you through the process. You are never alone and we are available every step of the way.
Curriculum and Materials (3)
What other materials will I need?
All materials needed are built into our web-based academic online programs with features such as interactive audio and visual resources, eBooks, videos, even automated testing functions to name a few.
How many courses can I register at a time?
You may enroll half (.5) credit to six (6) credits. Six (6) credit courses are considered a full load. Additional courses will need to be approved by UDL Academic Advisors.
Are there tests, quizzes & progress evaluations?
Each of our programs (whether it’s Global Courseware (Secular), Christian, Odysseyware, Gradpoint or our Honors Program) have built in quizzes with tests for each unit. Best of all, most of the courses are self-grading which automatically calculates grades for easy record keeping to your student portfolio. This way, you can pull up these records whenever you wish to evaluate their progress.
Tuition and Costs & Payment Plans (8)
How come your pricing is lower than others?
It’s easy to see, that traditional education has changed rapidly with more and more families choosing digital learning at home. We saw the writing on the wall and listened to the wants and needs of these same families. So we did all the research and selected the “best of the best” curriculum programs available today. Negotiating and buying in “bulk” so YOU could reap the discounted rewards. In addition, our web-based programs eliminates the huge cost associated with “brick and mortar” buildings, too.
IMPORTANT: If you are using our programs as a “supplement” (in addition) to your current school program, we encourage you to ask your school counselor, administrator or teacher if credits earned with United Digital Learning will be accepted by your school before you enroll. Our programs have been accepted and used by thousands of students nationally and worldwide.
Why choose UDL’s Monthly Payment Plan?
Our Monthly Payment Plan (subscription) enables a student to access courses without long term obligation. You can subscribe for as many months as you would like. Your subscription will automatically renew each month unless you call to cancel.
What are the benefits of your Monthly Subscription Plan?
• Exploring curriculum programs on a trial basis. Monthly subscription allows you to try online courses before you commit to its entirety.
• Providing for accelerated learning. For a student able to complete a course before normally allotted timeframe, monthly subscription is a cost effective option.
• Allowing the option to pick and choose. Whether there are only certain topics you would like to cover from a course or you are using parts of one course to supplement another, monthly subscription allows you to use only what you need.
How do I submit my enrollment form?
We strongly recommend you review our website to see the various Kindergarten-12th Grade programs we offer. Once you’ve selected the program that fits best for your student, go to: http://www.uniteddigitallearning.com/billing to fill out the form needed to get started.
How does your automatic renewal work?
Subscriptions are for a pre-paid one-month subscription term. Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each subscription term for another one-month term. You agree that we may automatically renew your subscription and charge your account on the one month anniversary of your last subscription date (the “Renewal Date”), unless you cancel your subscription before the Renewal Date. United Digital Learning (UDL) will automatically renew your subscription each month on the Renewal Date until you cancel your subscription or UDL no longer offers the subscription service.
What is your cancellation policy?
Once you have selected the curriculum program best suited for your student, and we have emailed you usernames and passwords, your automatic renewal begins. The initial subscription payment is NOT refundable. This monthly subscription plan is based on the program, courses/services you’ve selected and not actual usage. You must contact United Digital Learning Customer Service at 1-866-446-9963 to cancel your subscription. If you cancel within 7 days after the renewal date, your cancellation will be effective immediately. Otherwise, your cancellation will be effective at the end of the then-current one-month subscription term for which you have already paid.
Does United Digital Learning (UDL) send out monthly bills or reminders for the payment plan?
Yes, UDL will send out reminder emails when your payments are coming up. The payments are directly debited from your account on the date designated on UDL’s Enrollment application. We do not accept personal checks due to ongoing challenges brought forth in the past.
What can I expect to pay?
Unlike other curriculum providers who offer one or two choices within their programs, United Digital Learning brings you 5 world famous options (with more coming in the near future). In addition, we also offer extra “most asked about” programs to choose from. For complete pricing info, click here.
Technical Requirements (5)
What kind of computer and Internet access do I need?
Students will need to have access to a computer with internet connection capabilities.
Will your program work with a Mac and tablets?
Yes, a Mac will work with our online program. We’re also happy to say that many of our students are now enjoying doing their schoolwork on their tablets, too.
If I enroll more than one child, do they each need their own computer?
The importance of having “one computer per student” changes from elementary school (not so important) through high school (more important). Depending on learning styles, and schedules many children can use the same computer at different times of the day. Keep in mind how much time each student will need, and set a schedule that fits your lifestyle.
How can I read PDF (Acrobat) files?
There are parts of our curriculum you will need to be accessed with a FREE downloadable version of Acrobat.
Can I print out the lessons for review while off the Internet?
Yes, assignments and lessons can be printed, or downloaded for future use offline.
